🎃 Halloween at York St John University 🎭
I had the absolute pleasure of spending Halloween at York St John University with Dr. Morag Galloway and her incredible Musical Theatre undergraduate students. Together, we explored intuition, embodiment, and energy medicine practices — supporting students in developing mastery over performance anxiety and deepening their connection to presence. I facilitated practices to help them: ✨ Connect to the “I” and the “We” simultaneously ✨ Hold and share personal power within creative spaces ✨ Stay tuned in to their unique bodyminds, inner guidance and wisdom ✨ Understand and work with their nervous systems ...and so much more! It was such a powerful and inspiring day — being in an educational environment that truly values creativity, wellbeing, and holistic learning. I’m deeply impressed by York St. John University & its commitment to being a progressive and inclusive space. Obviously, I can't share photos of the students so this post includes a picture of the the venue. We worked predominantly with our most essential instruments — body, mind, energy, and voice — allowing the practice to stay individually relevant, deeply embodied and authentic.

"The season of Samhain is a time when the veils between the mundane and sacred are thinner and we can ‘see’ through illusion and dysfunction, and filter through distortion to our own authentic truth.
The festival of Samhain falls on the wheel of the year halfway between Mabon and Yule, the Winter Solstice. Many associate Samhain with calendared Halloween but the two are in fact different festivals. At Samhain there is a recognition of – and the visible connectivity with – death, but it is framed within the trust and faith that through giving death to the old we transform and regenerate and give birth to something new." Who questions. Who imagines alternatives. Who refuses to settle. Remember: the stages of how others respond to new ideas often sound like this: 1. This is worthless nonsense. 2. This is an interesting, but perverse, point of view. 3. This is true, but quite unimportant. 4. I always said so. I understand from both research and lived experience that #consciousness can exist beyond the #body and #mind. Yet my bodymind lived experience keeps showing me that I learn the most about consciousness, and our collective humane, humanitarian potential, in and through the body itself. Staying integrated, and connected — this is how I truly learn what it means to be alive. While consciousness may extend beyond form, it's through my body that I’ve come to understand it most deeply. I'm not in or with consciousness - I am embodied consciousness (embodied Source or #Spirit) - experiencing itself. And therefore, perhaps evolving too. 📸 St Michael's Tower on top of The Tor in Glastonbury, taken earlier this month Somatic Shamanism
“Where our minds are vexed by modernity, with even our wilder hopes limited by reason and logic, our creaturely bodies house and animate our strangest imaginations. We live all possibilities out loud through our bodies. We speak through our skin. We wield the intelligence of the flesh, our “fleshy knowings” as Kay Louise Aldred describes them. Move through this workbook like a prayer; it’s a beautiful and timely achievement.” -Danielle Dulsky, Founder of The Hag School I feel like the content of this workbook, which I authored and published (via @girlgodbooks, which is available from their website or online stores) in June 2023, is finally coming of age. Grateful for this beautiful endorsement that the book received: 'we speak through our skin ... we wield the intelligence of our flesh" #IfeelthereforeIam #educateevolveembody #bodymind #diversity #spirituality #depathologise #rehumanise #thinksystemically CLICK HERE Our bodies — the sacred site.
In and through them, we become conscious, and consciousness expresses, feels, and re-members itself. This is where life experiences life. Bodies matter. Bodies know. Listen to bodies. Restore the balance. Heal the split. Re-member wholeness #bodymind #bodymindspirit ******* The Erotic Fast forward a decade... 11 years ago, after I pushed boundaries as an undergraduate, writing about #neardeathexperiences and the survival of #consciousness, at Master’s level, I chose to explore another taboo: the #erotic Theology and the erotic — lifeforce, intuition, creativity — remain uneasy companions. Even now. But imagine the world we could live in if theology, religion and the institutions shaped by them truly embraced the erotic as sacred, rather than suppressing it. As I wrote ... "This lifeforce is fluid, dynamic, transforming. It is not settled but is continuously revealed. The erotic in the imagination leads to further creative imaginings. In love, there is no possession or control or wanting to change the other. There is an encouragement of retention and relationship with differences. The erotic is revelation from bodily knowing and a cultivation of mutuality and justice" Imagine this valued. Imagine this as sacred. Nearly two decades on… It’s been almost 20 years since that work, and lived, direct experience has become my greatest teacher—surpassing academia as my primary way of learning and making meaning. ******* Waiting I’ve written books, edited anthologies, and shared what I’ve learned with others. But now, I feel the quiet pull again — to return. To research. To contribute. To understand on a deeper level. To give more. To reach more. For more meaning to be revealed. I’m patiently waiting for the next step to unfold -- as it always does. Unexpectedly. With grace. In its own time. The harder I push the longer it takes. My life moves in spirals, in cycles -- always returning to the same truths, but each time with new depth, new awareness, new meaning. And so I wait. For life to reveal what’s next. The absence of the erotic in my life is a signal that its recovery is on its way. NDES and Consciousness
30 years ago, when I had just turned 21 years old, much to my Durham University lecturers’ bemusement (& quiet ridicule/dismissal) I handed in my undergraduate dissertation on #neardeathexperiences #NDES & the survival of #consciousness These topics did not align with traditional academic theology. I was alone & a very young researcher. Alienated on many levels. I got a First. I would not have dared to disclose that I had personally experienced psychic, ESP or out-of-body experiences in an educational forum (or in any forum then) & so my sense & meaning making had to be done through academia. As paradigms shift & collectively we begin to 'seek' - I'm feeling less alone & an experienced elder in explorations of what it means to be alive, be dead, be conscious, be human, to be bodymind & spirit (essence, soul, spark ... choose your word) to feel, to think, to sense, to know, to find meaning & purpose, to connect, to belong. Super excited & really looking forward to this new season of @kydickens_pro @thetelepathytapes The CONSCIOUSNESS Channel Also really looking forward to the @scimednet @aleftrust Beyond the Brain Conference which has a tribute to Dr Peter Fenwick who generously, alongside Paul Badham, gave time & telephone support to me as a young undergraduate & which also honours the 50th anniversary of Dr Raymond Moody's Life After Life book which I referenced in my dissertation despite the university objections! #educateevolveembody #bodymind #diversity #spirituality #depathologise #rehumanise #thinksystemically Neurodiverse Voices Podcast with Andreia Costa
Season 4 Episode 3 CLICK HERE Can you believe that it’s almost November? Still trying to understand what happened this year! The great news is that it’s almost time for a new episode of the NDV Podcast, with the amazing and very special @kaylouisealdred ! 🤗 From Diagnosis to Self-Compassion: Kay’s Story of Healing and Embodiment Diagnosed as autistic at 47, @kaylouisealdred shares her powerful journey of late diagnosis, healing, and self-acceptance. 💜 I connected with Kay last Autumn, as I joined the Neurodivergent Wellbeing Approach training that she leads at @ndconnectionuk. I’ve learnt so much from Kay during the training and she has become an inspiration since then. We had a wonderful and insightful conversation with a focus on the importance of the connection between the mind and body, which we so often miss. We talked about late diagnoses, menopause and neurodivergence, parenting and a lot more! Thank you so much for being a guest on the NDV Podcast, Kay! It’s been an immense pleasure to interview, and I can’t wait for Saturday, 1st November to share your story! 🩵 Don’t miss it! CLICK HERE Why self-awareness matters
My latest NDC blog extracts 👇 Whether you're Neurodivergent yourself or working with those who are, self-awareness is foundational. It means learning to notice our nervous system, values, triggers, and stories. It’s about becoming more aware of how we show up in spaces, and how our internal state affects our presence and interactions. For professionals, this reflective work allows us to move beyond ‘doing to’ and toward ‘being with’. For Neurodivergent individuals, cultivating self-awareness helps reclaim agency and self-trust in a world that often misunderstands difference. This training endeavours to create space for both groupings to come together in this exploration. 👁️ Reflective responding over reaction Neurodivergent people often face environments that ask for immediate answers, constant productivity and quick emotional recovery. The Neurodivergent Wellbeing Approach recognises that reflection is not a luxury, it’s a requirement for sustainable wellbeing. Reflection means: Noticing how systems shape our responses Identifying internalised expectations of compliance or performance Exploring what wellbeing looks and feels like for us This kind of self-inquiry isn't about pathology or self-improvement. It’s about remembering our own needs, rhythms and knowing. 👁️ Honouring spiritual and existential needs Wellbeing isn't just physical or emotional. Many Neurodivergent people have deep spiritual needs, rich inner landscapes and existential questions that deserve space. Whether expressed through connection to nature, creativity, meaning-making, or rituals of rest and solitude, spiritual wellbeing is often sidelined in clinical or educational settings. The Neurodivergent Wellbeing Approach course recognises spiritual and existential needs as valid, non-pathological aspects of human life. It gives language and permission for people to honour the deeper parts of themselves, without needing to explain or justify their experience.
